If you look closely you will see a butterfly egg, two small caterpillars, and a large caterpillar.

And So It Begins......

by Theresa Farris

August 29, 2009

August 26th brought the sighting of our first monarch caterpillar.  It was full grown and by the next morning had transformed into a beautiful green chrysalis. We had two small caterpillars emerge from their eggs with at least 3 more eggs yet to hatch.  It takes approximately 11 days for the butterfly to emerge.   The butterfly should appear on Sept. 3rd or 4th, over Labor day weekend. We will probably miss the first butterfly, but with the number of eggs yet to hatch, we are sure to enjoy releasing several monarch butterflies before the end of September.

Check back for future updates on the monarchs progress.
