NCAA Eligibility Information

by Rod Wittmer

November 22, 2006

The NCAA has implemented new eligibility standards for high school students who wish to play Division I or II athletics. It is extremely important for your student-athletes, as well as counselors, coaches, and parents, to be made aware of these new requirements. A summary of the new legislation is listed below:

- The NCAA Clearinghouse is no longer accepting paper applications.  The only way to register is online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.

- A student's ACT/SAT test scores can no longer be sent to the Clearinghouse from the student's high school. The Clearinghouse will only accept test scores sent directly from ACT/SAT. The Clearinghouse's code is 9999.

- Beginning on November 20, 2006, students must be certified as an amateur through the NCAA Clearinghouse.

- Beginning with the graduating class of 2008, students must complete 16 core courses in high school. This is an increase from the current standard of 14 core courses.

For more detailed information about the new eligibility standards and Amateurism Certification Process and for instructions on how to register with the Clearinghouse, please download and print the attached fliers.
