After school snack! FRESH FRUIT!
7th grade created world maps using silhouettes and paint during a Geography lesson.
SVCA's staff member of the week is Doug Smith!
The Sunshine committee selected Mr. Doug to be our staff member of the week. Doug worked hard over the summer to get the building ready for the start of school! He continues to do so much to keep the school running smoothly! Thank you, Mr. Doug for all you do! We appreciate you!
First graders and third graders partnered up to work on their reading skills.
To calculate the density of irregularly shaped objects, seventh graders found the mass using a beam scale and they found the volume using water displacement!
As a writing prompt 8th grade students took part in the Ceremony of the Twelve based off of the novel The Giver. Students sat in birth order and were called to the stage to receive their role in the community. Students then had a choice in their writing assignment, to explain the reasons they are pleased with their future job or to apply for a new job and explain why they are not suited for the one assigned.
Sunshine and sight words! SVCA Kindergarten had fun practicing their sight words outside. They had to focus on using the correct letter formation while writing their words. Their favorite part was erasing each letter with the squirt bottle, which is a great activity to strengthen their little hands!

Today we started our 5 For Life Fitness Program. Each class learned two vocabulary words tody. The first word was a long tongue twister. Cardiorespiratory Endurance which is the ability of the heart and lungs to supply OXYGEN (the second word) to the muscles during long periods of physical activity. Each student took their heart rate before exercise to show that the heart was working just not very hard. Then each student jumped over a rope for two minutes then took their heart rate again. They learned that their heart rate was faster because their muscles are using oxygen to produce energy. Activities that raise the heart rate will make their hearts stronger. All of the running and exercising we do improves our Cardiorespiratory Endurance allowing them to play longer and harder without getting tired.https://youtu.be/S4uPtOMf4FE

First graders are building on the basics in reading.
K-2 students are incubating 36 chicken eggs. The eggs were candled and placed in the incubator on August 23rd. This picture is day 12. It normally takes 21 days for chicks to hatch. We should hearing peeping starting around Sept.12th. The incubator we are using extends the hatch date out slightly to around 24 days so we could still have chicks hatching through the Sept. 16th.
Now taking applications for SPED para for SVCA!
More fun in the Kindergarten classroom.

One of the best parts of being a school principal is having the opportunity to visit each classroom and see the amazing things the teachers are doing with our students. Not sure if you are aware but, Elementary teachers KNOW how to teach procedures.
Along with great staff members we have some great kiddos. I got to witness three amazing students show what can only be described as demonstrating Indian Pride!
One young man gave up his seat this morning at the breakfast table for a friend.
Carsynn Smith overheard another student saying they were cold and without being asked let the student borrow her jacket.
Teagan Davis was standing along the wall waiting for his class to finish in the restrooms. I walked by, said hi, and asked how his day was going. He responded with a wave and a smile, to let me know he heard me, but then immediately put a bubble back in his mouth. Having the kiddos put a pretend bubble in their mouth is the way elementary teachers teach kids to stay quiet in the halls.
What a great start to a new school year.
